Numbing in the pursuit of Happiness
The purpose of life is not to find happiness.
The purpose is to experience the highs and lows.
To fully feel all your emotions.
To be present in every moment.
To learn how you respond and shift where needed.
When we’re constantly chasing happiness, we start to demonize any neutral or negative emotion. We push these feelings down with escapism. Whether that’s tv or meditation, you are creating a bubble of numbness around you. One that can actually heighten your negativity when you consistently attend to numbing vs living.
How can you step away from this?
Create a habit of experiencing. Walk into your life with fresh eyes and an open mind.
Put on a pop song and jump around your living room.
Go for a walk, close your eyes, and feel the sun shining down on you.
Literally stop and smell the flowers.
Take a bite of chocolate and let it melt in your mouth, tasting every flavor.
Notice and touch all the different fabrics you’re wearing today.
Talk to a friend or journal about a memory that still makes you sad and what you’ve learned from it.
Take a deep inhale, pause, and slowly exhale.
The pathway to fun and happiness is through allowing yourself to feel everything.
